PANAJI: Special Investigation Team (SIT) Investigating RS 35,000-Crore Mining Fraud in the State has completed an initial report of more than 50% of rental mining.
In all, it was probing alleged violations at 126 rent.
This report consists of verification of mining rental documents, who is the rent allocated for and that operates them, and whether legal environmental permits are obtained, between other details.
Based on this report, the final decision relating to the investigation will be taken by Sit.
A senior crime branch officer said the initial report of more than 60 lease mining has finished the examination of documents submitted by the Mining Department regarding environmental permits, garbage-handling and fresh extraction.
Based on the report, the police are expected to take the necessary actions.
Sit has submitted 16 first information reports (FIR) in the case of illegal mining, where eight chargesheeted, three have been closed, and three have been transferred to the concerned police station.
A senior police said three other cases were canceled by the court.
Incidentally, not much progress has been made in an investigation despite the sit after being investigated by cases for six-and-a-half years now.
As part of an investigation to RS 35,000-crore fraud, senior officers said that the investigation team had searched for answers from the Mining Department for 19 questions related to the lease operating 2007-2012.
