Bicholim: Pretty like a bad performance in the election of the last Zilla Panchayat, 1,199 voters from three wards in Maulinguem Village The Mayem Constituency appeared to choose in an effort to register their protest for the government’s failure to resolve government ownership issues.
According to them, the development in the village has been ignored since the last 30-37 years because of the Mokashe Soil system, which through it, they said, the rights of ownership of village land have been given to certain landlords.
As a result, those who own their homes on such land cannot fix it without the permission of the owner concerned.
What’s worse is that they can’t even apply basic facilities such as electricity and water supply if they don’t receive certificates without objections from the landlord.
This system affects public facilities too, because tasks such as repairing the Panchayat building and repairing the road cannot be done if the owner decides to deny permission.
The villagers said they had brought this problem before various government authorities on several occasions.
When no one was resolved, they decided to boycott the ZP selection.
The former Mayem Mla Pravin Zantye then intervened and convinced them about the solution with the help of the minister’s chairman.
However, there is no progress made.
