Coimbatore: A man who operates a workshop at T K Street in the city has escaped with 45 sovereignty of the gold ornaments given to him because of an enameling by a 28-year-old Goldsmith.
The police identified the defendant as Swarup Ghosh, who operated its location near Santthosh Bakery for the past few years.
“Ghosh has been doing business with G Sathishkumaran many times in the past.
Many goldsmiths approach Ghosh to give the last touch to their work,” said a police officer with the Variety Hall Police Station.
On November 30, Sathishkumaran, from the Local Street, handed over 358.9g of gold ornaments to Ghosh.
Sathishkumaran waited for a phone call from Ghosh to tell him to complete the job.
“When Sathishkumaran was not contacted, he tried to call Ghosh by telephone, but in vain.
So, he visited the Ghosh workshop on Tuesday.
When he found the workshop was closed, he asked another shop owner and learned that Ghosh’s workshop was closed for two days , “the officer said.
Sathishkumaran immediately approached the police and filed a complaint.
The case was registered against Swarup below 406 (penalty for trust criminal violations) and 420 (cheating) from the Criminal Code.
