Google Cloud has announced new security features that will help detect Cryptocurrency mining in virtual machines (VMS).
Crypto mining by exploiting compute resources is a dangerous cyber activity that is common and in accordance with Google, such attacks redeem 86% cyber threats on the Public Cloud platform.
This new feature is called virtual machine threat detection (VMTD) and has been launched to customers from the Google Cloud Command Premium Offers, as a public preview, Google said in blog posts.
VMTD has been designed to detect cyber threats such as crypto-mining malware on a virtual machine that runs in Google Cloud with the help of “memory scan without agent”.
The company said that VMTD does not require additional software agents to detect Crypto mining activities on virtual machines.
With the security of traditional endpoints, software agents are deployed inside the virtual machine guests to detect threats.
But Google says that with its computing machine, he wants to be able to detect cyber threats such as crypto-mining malware without using any software agent.
The company also mentions the motivation behind memory scan without agent.
Without software agents, it will produce “less performance impacts, reduce operating expenses for the deployment and management of agents, and reveal less surfaces of attacks with potential enemies,” Google Cloud said on his blog post.
Google Cloud added that it “can attach importance to the Hypervisor – software that runs below and regulates our customer’s virtual machine – to include almost universal threat detection and hard-to-to-tamper.” The detection of the threat of the Google Cloud virtual machine will be expanded to include other abilities in the coming months.
