LONDON: Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick said Thursday that the arrest and suspension of Mason Greenwood by the club was a factor in the decision to keep Jesse Lingard at Old Trafford.
Greenwood was arrested on Sunday for alleged rape and attack of a young woman.
While still in detention, the 20-year-old player was then arrested on Tuesday due to suspected sexual attacks and threats to kill.
United started the Pre-match press conference by saying Germany would not answer questions in Greenwood, which was released with a guarantee on Wednesday, while the police investigation was underway.
Rangnick insisted that United have a “normal” training week ahead of the FA Cup fourth round match against Middlesbrough despite Greenwood’s disturbance.
“Obviously, I guess, it’s a topic in the team but they are all humans and Mason are part of the group until before we break,” said Rangnick.
“But, as I said, it is a good week for training.
We can practice in normal circumstances and we look forward to tomorrow’s match.” Rangnick said the availability of Greenwood played a role in the decision to continue to jump, who wanted to leave before the transfer window was closed on Monday and had been linked to a loan moved to Newcastle.
“That’s two things,” he said.
“One thing is clear that we have a problem with Mason Greenwood and without players today that have been played regularly in recent weeks.” And on the other hand, the club can’t find an agreement with any other club.
“Rangnick revealed the England midfielder Lingard, who had struggled for the time of the match this season, has been given a weekend to clear his head after failing to move.” He asked me and the club if we could give him a partner.
Holiday only to clean his mind and he will return to the group, I think, the following Monday, come back for the training and then become a regular part of the entire squad again, “said Rangnick.
But the French midfielder Paul Pogba, 28, is set to be part of the squad For the Middlesbrough match at Old Trafford.
Pogba, who has come out of the contract at the end of the season, has not performed for United since the Champions League drawing at Atalanta on November 2 after retaining injury thighs on international tasks with France.
“Paul will be part of the group,” Rangnick said.
“He might even be at the beginning of XI.
There are still some missing players.
