Mumbai: In an effort to prepare for the third wave of Covid-19, the Maharashtra government has issued fresh guidelines for liquid medical oxygen producers (LMO) in the state.
Manufacturers and refills have been asked to ensure that their storage is maintained at 95 percent of the full capacity level on September 30 and must continue to maintain a level up to further orders.
Orders issued by the Head of Secretary of Sitaram Kunte said that the state had experienced a wave of both of them between April-June 2021, where there were 7 active cases of lakh at its peak with the 1850MT oxygen requirements, and at that time it was seen that certain producers reported LMO shares that had run out.
To achieve a 95 percent storage capacity, LMO producers must ensure that their plants run on full production capacity.
District collectors have also been asked to maintain a decent oxygen storage rate in their area.
The Ministry of Health Public must adjust the use of non-medical oxygen with medical use when the case starts to rise.
Maharashtra produces almost 1400 MT oxygen every day, but because of an increase in oxygen demand during the second wave, they must depend on the supply of other far countries such as Jharkhand and Odisha.
The state has started the installation of several PSA oxygen plants to increase supply.
