Rajkot: Mandvi Beach, one of the favorite destinations of tourists visiting Kutch, receiving a large eco-boosting makeover on Saturday, observed as an international beach cleaning day.
Gujarat Institute of Desert Ecology (Guide), Bhuj and National Center for Coastal Research (NCCR) Chennai along with the Forest Department took a daily encouragement under the theme of the conservation ocean and cleaned the beach around 1.5 tons of plastic waste and other garbage.
Gujarat tourism promotes the 500-year-old beach as one of the main tourist attractions of the country due to its uniqueness and historical interests.
Guide Director, V Vijay Kumar said, “plastic waste in the waters of the sea and the coast has an impact on the oceans on many levels.
From wounding wildlife and humans to influence the livelihood of society depend on the ocean, it also causes large economic damage by affecting tourism activities and Recreation.
Reports say that the majority of plastics found in the oceans come from land-based sources than sea sources themselves.
“According to environmental scientists, creating awareness among people to take an active part in cleaning the beach is an important part to support conservation Ocean.
The two institutes also made efforts to spread ideas and techniques to help reduce plastic waste.
Coastal cleaners recover 1.5 tons of sea litters from various categories including cutlery, disposable plastic water bottles and straws, plastic cups, snack packages, submerged idols among more.
Interestingly, gutkha pockets and plastic-string flowers used to decorate the idols that are most added to the garbage.
Speaking with Toi, Mandvi Municipality President, Hetal Soneji, said, “The Ministry of Tourism maintains the beach.
Even though we have not been given their responsibilities, we still send our tractors to transport waste and our workers to clean the beach.
We also put our trash can there.
