Gurugram: The branch of the Gurugram police crime on Thursday claimed to have damaged the gang between countries used to steal “only” reducer from four-wheeled for precious metals.
Palladium dust (₹ 5,700 per gram) is more expensive than gold and is used in the vehicle exhaust muffler to control carbon emissions.
In the past year, the gang has done more than 150 of such theft in Delhi-NCR, including 100 in Gurugram.
Police said three gang members (Mastermind), Shyam Lal and Vinod, all Delhi residents were arrested from the national capital and Karnal in Haryana.
This trio mainly targets Van Eeco because the reducer installed in this vehicle “is more easily separated and contains a higher number of palladium dust”.
A total of 93 reduced reducers recovered from their ownership.
Deciphering about the modus of gang operandi, Inspector Sandeep Kumar, is responsible for Manesar’s crime unit, saying the thief reducer traveling to Gurugram in their private car after 10pm and surveying the vehicle until 1 morning.
Between 1am and 4 in the morning, they will steal the damper and return to Delhi.
“On each visit to Gurugram, they used to steal 4-10 silencers from cars parked in different areas,” said Sandeep, added that the gang was active in Delhi-NCR for the past year.
“They often make Round Gurugram for the past six months.
