Avishek.kumar ghaziabad: two girls – aged 4 and 5 years – scorched in their sleep when the cooking gas cylinder exploded in a house in the Shatabdipuram colony of the Kawi Nagar area on Thursday night.
While the whole family managed to climb the stairs, the two sisters could not escape from fire.
The two girls were identified as Ruby (5) and Rani (4).
Their father, Brijesh Kumar, was a construction site worker and came out when the fire broke in the kitchen and immediately swallowed the whole building.
The family lives on the first floor of a two-story building.
Around 7pm on Thursday when Brijesh’s wife, Mamta, turned on the oven and turned on the match to cook dinner.
But the match lit up immediately burned when the gas began to leak from the cylinder pipe.
When Mamta raised the alarm, his relatives, pushpendra, came to save him.
He and the other four women – the youngest is only one year – taken to the balcony.

Deenu Kumar, a neighbor, said the family tried to go down using the stairs, but could not.
“Flames from the kitchen have started to swallow the entire building.
It’s impossible for the family to get out using stairs.

Chief Fire Officer Sunil Kumar Singh said the fire department got a call 35 minutes after the fire began and the cylinder exploded.
“We only took 20 minutes to reach from Kotwali.
The whole building was filled with fire.
When we managed to reach the room, the two girls were scorched,” he added.
On charges that the fire team arrived late, Singh said the investigation would begin.
