New Delhi: Former Indian Off-Spinner Harbhajan Singh will be seen in different avatars during the Indian Premier League next year as a key member of support staff in one of the high profile franchises.
Harbhajan is 41 years old, who appeared in several matches during the first phase of the last IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders, not playing the game in the UAE League.
It is hoped that someday Harbhajan will officially announce his retirement from competitive cricket and after that he is expected to decide on a supply that he must be part of the support staff at least some franchises.
“His role is that of consultants, mentors or part of the advisory group but the franchise he is talking about wants to use a broad experience .
Harbhajan always looks interested in grooming players and it’s also his role in the following years with Mumbai Indians where he spent a useful decade.
In fact, in KKR last year, Harbhajan spent a lot of time guiding Varun Chakravarthy, which has become an integral part of the franchise for the last two seasons.
Venkatesh Iyer, the discovery of the last IPL, previously revealed that it was Harbhajan who had told him after several clean sessions that he would be a big hit in the league even before he played one match.
In fact, during the past season, the head coach of the KKR Brendon McCullum and Skipper Eoin Morgan also paid Harbhajan’s advice in team selection problems.
“Listen, Harbhajan wants to make an official announcement for his retirement after the season ends.
He has extended talks with one of the franchises that has shown sharp interest but he wants to talk about it only when the agreement is officially inked,” said the source.
