Yamunanagar: Professor Om Prakash Gandhi, a social worker of Madhobas Village in Block Relaur Yamunanagar district in Haryana, has been named for the Padma Shri award.
Gandhi works for women’s empowerment.
He completed the matriculation at Mukund Lal Secondary School in Radaur, BSC from Agra University and MSc in physics from Meerut University.
Gandhi was first appointed as a lecturer in Rampur Maniharan Agriculture College in Saharanpur and after 20 years of serving, he volunteered to resign and adopt the field of social work.
In 1984, Gandhi formed a Vidya Pracharni Sabha, a community to spread awareness about education among girls in Khadri Village in the Regency.
He then founded Gurjar Kanya Vidya Mandir, a Gurukul type institution in Devdhar Village in Yamunanagar Regency, which now serves as a bachelor’s degree.
