High surge protein makes ‘o’ more contagious: experts

Bhubaneswar: Health experts say the transmission level of omicron variants which are quickly caused by the number of very high surge proteins (37) that lead to the virus attached to receptors in the host faster than Delta partners.
They say no properly wear masks or with a gap near the nose or wear a mask but come with close contact with someone and talk to him can produce Covid-19 infection.
In addition, aerosols can stick to masks and wrong handling can easily transmit viruses.
In the case of Omicron, the transmission is clearer because of high mutations in surge proteins.
“Omicron variants with lots of mutations in protein spike show hyper transmission.
Viruses multiply in the upper airways quickly and thus are released through nose and mouth.
Strict Covid behavior is needed to load spread,” said Sanghamitra Pati, Director, Medical Research Center ICMR-regional (RMRC).
He said the airtight mask was a must to prevent the entry of the virus.
Concerns close to the indoor settings must also be avoided.
Experts say if someone wears a mask correctly does not leave a gap around the protected area (mouth and nose) and stay away from the meeting, the virus cannot travel and enter a person’s body.
Ajay Parida, Director, Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), said Omicron itself has two variants of BA.1 and BA.2.
The variant of BA.2 is more transmitting, which means that it can enter the host through Ace2 receptors quite easily, he said.
South Africa said that Omicron 36.5% was more contagious than Delta and eroded the immunity obtained from previous Covid infections and inoculation.
Household infections caused by Omicron are around 16% compared to around 10% in the case of Delta.
So there is a chance of higher transmission to family members, he said.
