Thiruvananthapuram: Two officials from the State Pocket Security Department of Food Security from the National Contest conducted by the Food Security Authority and India standards (FSSAI) to choose new ideas to be implemented in the food security segment.
The contest titled ‘Idathon-Food for Thinking’, Selected Food Security Officer, Musthafa K C, Kondotty Circle, Malappuram, as the first prize winner, while the technical assistant at the Regional Food Analytical Laboratory, Kozhikode, P K Irfan pocketed the third prize.
The first prize is to integrate the idea of a school food safety club, which is conceived by the State Food Security Department with a central project entitled “Safe and Nutritious Food in Schools”.
The integrated project chose one student from each school chosen and appointed students as the ambassador of food security for a year.
All further activities to ensure food security is carried out under selected student leadership.
In addition, a teacher who is responsible for lunch projects at school or who is interested in such activities is also part of the initiative as a “health and fitness coordinator” to oversee activities.
Team activities include taking steps to take advantage of food security licenses or registration in schools, distributing booklets about food security that have been issued by the department among students, conducting food security awareness classes, including subjects in the school curriculum etc.
