PANAJI: Hospicio Margao Hospital, which has crunched acute space, will start shifting to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) from Wednesday after the last Covid-19 patient admitted on Tuesday.
Ward drugs that run at full capacity and cannot accommodate more patients, will be the first toggle, followed by pediatrics, gynecological wards and OPDs.
Minister of Health Vishwajit Rane last week, when talking to TOI, has emphasized the need to shift the function of Hospicio to SGDH, and add that it will occur in the phase.
The authorities have not made a decision about whether Covid-19 victims in SGDH will continue in the future.
“Until now, the victims of Covid-19 in SGDH will continue to run.
Patients can visit to be assessed, collecting a home insulation kit, check oxygen saturation and receive drugs, but they will not be accepted at the hospital,” said a health official.
Surgery branches will be the last to move to a new building from Hospicio because the operating cinema must be discarded – covert and culture done – before use.
Shifting all patients is expected to take a week, but moving throughout Hospicio is expected to take a month.
The hospital has a long record needed to be stored for ten years and has to shift all parts of the MRD, office, linen department, and other equipment.
Last year, when the hospital shifted to SGDH, the building was completely empty.
This time the hospital is equipped with a lab prepared and used for covid-19, x-ray and ultrasound machines and pharmacies as a result from which this step is expected to be easier than last year.
Ward medicine will be the first toggle because it does not require other support services.
OPD TB, STD clinics, testing and counseling for HIV will continue in Hospicio along with health centers.
The hospital also plans to bring the initial district intervention center that is transferred to Monte back to Hospicio.
