WASHINGTON: In the case of other baffling espionage, a US Nuclear Navy engineer and his wife produced in the West Virginia Court on Tuesday after the FBI arrested them on charges of trying to sell the propulsion technology of nuclear submarines to foreign countries that were not named.
Jonathan Toebbe and his wife Diana, who had a PhD in anthropology, was captured by the FBI on Saturday after surgery that was most throughout the year when they went for information “decreasing dead” about the nuclear propulsion system they had offered to foreigners.
Strength a few months earlier.
Unnamed foreign powers have reported bids to the US government through the local FBI link, allowing the bureau to launch a burning shock operation.
According to the Affidavit complaint FBI, on April 1, 2020, Jonathan Toebbe sent packages to foreign governments that contain limited data samples related to the propulsion system of nuclear submarines, and instructions to build a covert relationship to buy additional payment data in the form of cryptocurrency.
Affidavit also accused that, after that, Teebbe began to correspond through encrypted emails with an individual who he believed to be a representative from a foreign government, when the individual was truly an agent of FBI disguised.
On June 8, 2021, FBI Affidavit stated, the Undercover agent sent $ 10,000 in Cryptocurrency to Toebbe as “good faith” payment.
Shortly after, on June 26, the husband’s team and wife traveled from Annapolis, where they lived, to the location in West Virginia, where with Diana acted as a surveillance, Jonathan placed an SD card hidden in half the peanut butter sandwich in Pre – Arranged “Dead Drop” location.
Review SD card after additional Cryptocurrency payments to secure the de-encryption key revealed that it contains limited data related to submarine nuclear reactors, the FBI said.
Similar exchanges occurred on August 28 and on October 9 – with a data card containing limited data hidden in band-aid wrapping and gum package – before the couple was arrested.
What is confusing in this case, which can go straight out of the TV spy series, is that the couple seems to have lived a non-dangerous suburban life with their two children.
They are considered good by their friends and neighbors, and have a good payment (Diana teaches in elite private schools).
Also interesting is the identity of foreign countries who are not named who warn the FBI.
It was explained in several reports as more partners than allies, which would place India on a short list.
Russia, China, France and England already have submarines driven by nuclear, and the US and the United Kingdom offer the same thing to Australia.
In addition, Australia and Japan also counted as US allies by agreement.
Officials from both parties refused to comment further in this case.
Jonathan Toebbe and his wife, Diana, were arrested after a year-year sting operation with a disguised FBI agent.
TOEBBE, 42, a nuclear engineer with a secret security permit, was accused of sending naval documents to foreign entities which was not named in 2020.
The court on Tuesday decided that the couple would remain behind the bar for now.
