PATIALA: A middle-aged man was held for trying to imbble in Gurudwara Sahib from a village in Nabha District Patiala on Saturday.
CCTV footage of this incident becomes a viral on social media.
The police have identified the defendant as Jagdeep Singh, 45, from the village of Ditupur Jesan in Patiala.
He allegedly entered his village building Gurdwara Sahib on Saturday to pay respect, but later, in the presence of staff members and Granthi (who read prayer), the defendant tried to indicate by removing Rumala Sahib (fabric placed to cover Sri Teacher Granth Sahib) .
Staff members who attended Gurudwara Sahib claimed that the defendant took a sword stored near Sri Teacher Granth Sahib after the staff immediately reached and tried to arrest him.
Sikh community members were also disturbed when the defendant failed to cover his head with a piece of cloth despite the presence of Sri Teacher Granth Sahib in accordance with the Sikh ritual intended for visitors.
The police said that the defendant was mentally annoyed, in addition to being a cancer patient.
The police claimed that he underwent treatment for cancer in Ludhiana.
“The defendant was bowed by Gurdwara Sahib Village staff.
We have registered the case below it below Section 295 A and 380 Criminal Code concerning complaints from members of the Village Gurdwara Committee,” Sukhdev Singh’s house officer said.
He added that the defendant would be produced in front of the court and his police.
The remand will be searched for interrogation.
