Mangaluru: Officials from the power of train protection at the Junction Mangaluru train station detained a man traveling with Rs 1.48 Crore Cash and 800 grams of gold ornaments without documents in Mumbai-Ltt-Ernakulam Duronto Express on Sunday.
The man is Mahendra Singh, 33, Indigenous Udaipur.
An officer said the RPF who conducted an examination at Duronto Express which arrived at around 10:30 a.m.
examined a men’s suitcase and found a currency bundle wrapped in the old newspaper.
He was detained immediately.
Introduction Investigations revealed that Singh, a salesman, traveled from Mumbai to Kozhikode.
He failed to produce any document.
Checked that a man handed over currency records and three jewelry packages in Mumbai to be given to the employer of Singh, who run a jewelry store in Kozhikode and also from Rajasthan.
The defendant was handed over to the train police, who had registered the case and the court would decide on the agency that would investigate it, the officer said.
After five states – Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Manipur, Punjab and Uttarakhand will hold assembly elections – RPF has intensified checks on the train to curb illegal transportation of money, gold and contraband items.
