A man who was harassed by western midfielder Bromwich West Romaine Sawyers Online received a sentence of eight weeks on Thursday.
Simon Silwood, 50, Sawyers targeted after Western Bromwich lost 5-0 from Manchester City in the English Premier League match in January.
The Birmingham Magistrates court found him guilty for posting “very offensive offensive messages”.
Western Bromwich banned Silwood for life earlier this month.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said that during his police interview, Silwood claimed to post messages on social media after upset with a 5-0 defeat but blamed the errors made using predictive text.
The judge said the message was “motivated by or showed racial hostility”.
“Silwood deliberately chose a word that was known to have a clear racist connotation to abuse the footballer because of the color of his skin.
Such behavior will not be tolerated in football and will be demanded by the CPS,” Mark Johnson said from the CPS.
The court ordered Silwood to pay 500 pounds ($ 684) in compensation and 500 pounds in court fees.
West Bromwich was relegated at the end of last season.
Some players have experienced racial abuse online in recent months, especially in the Premier League, and English football has accumulated pressure on social media companies to do more to overcome the problem.
