Athens: Hundreds of people were evacuated by a boat from an island near Athens when Greece prepared for the fourth day of forest fires on Friday with emergency services estimating strong winds and burning temperatures.
The coastal ship assisted by tourist vessels has picked up 631 people from Thursday from three beaches on Evia Island, where the flame has been burned through a spacious pine forest area since Tuesday and reached the sea.
They were all transferred to salvation and marine patrols continued if an emergency occurred, said a coast guard official.
The Athens sky returned to run away with thick smoke from forest fires on the northern suburbs of the city, which exploded back to life on Thursday after death early in the week.
A number of suburbs have been evacuated when the fire caught fire around the main highway that connects Athens to North Greece and hundreds of firefighters with a water bomb plane trying to prevent the fire from reaching the nearest marathon city.
The temperature has been more than 40 degrees Celsius (107 Fahrenheit) all week and no disappointed expected on Friday with the Gale wind force is expected to spread the fire further.
So far, at least nine people have been taken to hospitals with various levels of injury, including two volunteer firefighters who were treated for burns in the intensive care unit in Athens, said health officials.
With Turkish neighbors also struggled against many big fires for more than a week, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Thursday Greece needed to strengthen his readiness for bad weather caused by climate change.
