Patna: Katihar’s Shubham Kumar, who has topped up the UPSC Civil Services (Main) Examination 2020, wants to work for the welfare of rural communities.
He shared the success mantra with Rumi Faryal in an interview.
Quote: How do you feel after the results declaration? I have never expected for the exam, but always believed in my hard work.
Securing the top ranking in the Civil Service Exam is completely a different feeling.
I was still surprised.
Who inspires you to pursue civil service? My father and other family members inspired me to go for civil service.
The way my parents raised me although in the village is an example for others to follow.
This inspired me to work for the welfare of rural communities.
I have tried the civil service exam for the first time in 2018 after graduating from IIT-Bombay.
Serious effort was in 2019 after preparing for one and a half years.
I have secured water 290 in 2019.
To whom did you immediately call after the results declaration? I talked to my father first and told him that I had topped the exam.
He did not believe at first.
What is the secret of your success? In my third attempt, I limit my syllabus and source of information.
I went from training to write letters.
During training at Pune, I was ready for the interview round.
Can you tell us about your background? I came from a rural background and my father, Devanand Singh, working at Uttar Bihar Gramin Bank and Mother, Pamam Kumari, was a housewife.
I live in a family together.
My father always ensures that I have never faced difficulties.
He spent around 50-60% of his income in the study of myself and my sister.
What facilities should be provided by the state government to civil service candidates? The state has provided cash incentives to IAS candidates who prepare for an electric exam.
But I think that if there is a special institute in Bihar to help prospective civil servants, it will greatly help them.
Your message to candidates? They must be confident and associate only with such people who can give them positive energy.
