Chandigarh: CBI on Monday arrested a Punjab highway director for allegedly taking RS 2 Lakh bribes from an employee for his promotion.
Searching in the houses of officers IAS Paramjit Singh in Chandigarh and Mohali produced Rs 30 Lakh in cash, officials said.
Jaswinder Singh Chahal, who supported him, he would be promoted to the rank of general manager, where the Department’s promotion committee was formed in January.
Director is a member of the committee.
Chahal suspected Singh demanded bribery Rs 5 lakh from him for recommending his name to the main secretary, transport, punjab, for promotions.
Then, the defendant was suspected of approving Rs 2 Lakh.
Chahal accused Singh even threatening him to bear the consequences if the money was not paid.
Allegations will be produced before the court on Tuesday.
