KABUL: Taliban on Friday said that it would focus on strengthening relations with the United States, the European Union, and other countries if the United Nations approved their representatives.
In an interview with Sputnik, Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Afghanistan Zabihullah Mujahid said: “If my brother Suhail is approved by the United Nations as our representative, he will obviously try to strengthen relations with other countries, including the European Union and the US, and with the state – Muslim countries for strong and long-term cooperation.
This will be the main task.
“Furthermore he said that the Taliban could ask friendly countries like Qatar to help him get a seat at the United Nations.
“Yes, why not.
Other countries close to us, such as Qatar and others, those who support us during a difficult period, can take the role of mediators or links and help us get seats at the United Nations.
This is true and we welcome every country able to help this, “Mujahid said, reported Sputnik.
The Taliban had previously nomined Suhail Shaheen as a permanent representative for the organization.
The clothes also said that it was not looking for extradition of former President of Ashraf Ghani but wanted to return the funds suspected of being taken by him.
“No, we are not looking for Ghani extradition.
But Ashraf Ghani has stolen state funds and we demand that they have to be returned to the bank.
They belong to our people and banks,” Mujahid said in Sputnik’s interview.
Last month, Ghani left Kabul for the United Arab Emirates after the Afghan capital was confiscated by the Taliban.
