Patna: Institute of Medical Sciences Indira Gandhi (IGIMS) formally started the sequencing of the positive sample genome of Covid-19 from Monday.
The Ministry of Health Special Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh said the sequencing of the genome would begin in the state after the head of Minister Nith Kumar’s instructions in this matter in a recent meeting.
Otherwise, the sample was sent to the National Center for National Disease in New Delhi.
Singh said the machine for testing techniques was already in IGIMs and now the reagent has been purchased for genome sequencing.
He said 100 different types of reagents were needed for one cycle to run.
“In one cycle, up to 96 samples can be tested for sample controls,” he said.
Singh said RS15 Lakh was issued to run a cycle, whether it had one or 96 samples.
A week is required to get a report.
He further said with a number of samples to be managed in the cycle, the sample selection for the sequencing of the genome will be carried out on various parameters, such as travel history, different geographical locations and different viral loads.
Although almost 30 samples were previously tested in IGIM for genome sequencing, Dr.
Manish Mandal’s supervisor said they had to send this sample again to Pune or Bhubaneswar for reconfirmation.
However, this Institute has a certificate now to carry out genome sequencing and there will be no more need to resolve reconfirmation.
The Head of the Igims Microbiology Department Dr.
Namrata Kumari said they had started preparations to test 24 samples because many other work must be done before running the sample.
He said it would take a week to ten days to get the results.
The source said the kit, which has a capacity of 24 samples, has been brought and they with 96 samples will soon arrive.
