Paris / Berlin: Germany and France will continue with the Covid-19 vaccine booster from September, ignoring the appeal by the World Health Organization (WHO) to last until more people are vaccinated throughout the world.
The decision to press forward with Booster’s shot even though there was the strongest statement from those who highlight the challenges of dealing with global pandemics while countries tried to protect their own citizens from a more contagious Delta variant.
French President Emmanuel Macron said France was trying to launch the third covid-19 vaccine dose to parents and vulnerable from September.
“The third dose is likely needed, not for everyone directly, but in any case for the most vulnerable and older,” Macron said on his Instagram account.
Germany intends to provide a booster to immunocompromised patients, very old houses and breastfeeding from September, the Ministry of Health said.
Who was the head of Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called on Wednesday for termination of vaccine amplifiers until at least the end of September, said it was unacceptable for rich countries to use more global vaccine supplies.
High-income countries provide around 50 doses for every 100 people in May, and that number has doubled, according to WHO.
Low income countries can only manage 1.5 doses for every 100 people, due to lack of inventory.
“I understand the concern for all the government to protect their people from the Delta variant.
But we cannot accept countries that have used most of the supply of global vaccines using even more,” said Tedros.
Germany rejected the allegations, said it would also donate at least 30 million doses of vaccines to poor countries.
“We want to provide vulnerable groups in Germany with the third vaccination of caution and at the same time supporting as much vaccination as possible in the world,” the ministry said.
The Macron government tried to improve the French vaccination program because the country faced a wave of four viruses and street demonstrations in protest against the government’s covid policy.
France and Germany have so far given at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine to 64.5% and 62% of their respective populations, with 49% of France and 53% of Germany entirely – vaccinated.
