Bhubaneswar: IIT Bhubaneswar with the help of the Odisha government has been specifically designed and developed a cellular solar pump for state farmers.
A total of 13 solar pumps have been distributed among farmers from various districts after development.
This project was funded by the Directorate of Agriculture and Food Production under the Scheme of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY).
This is a photovoltaic solar system (MSPV) that is affordable for water pumps in the Odisha area which is far and inaccessible.
Project work began in 2017.
Villages that do not have electrical connections or shedding loads can use this pump for irrigation purposes.
Two assistant professors, Srinivas Bhaskar Karanki from the School of Science and Satish D Dhandole from the School of Mechanical Sciences Institute, led this project.
Kanjalki said this system could easily move from one agriculture to another that allowed small farmers with an affordable water pump system.
He said the solar pump was designed to operate on low solar radiation and can achieve maximum solar energy harvesting with one-stage power conversion from direct (DC) to alternately (AC).
This increases reliability and reduces overall costs, he added.
Even this solar pump can be operated from the supply of a single phase grid too.
“This institution is willing to transfer technology to mass production by manufacturers with the possibility of subsidies,” the National Institute said in a statement issued on Monday.
RA Raja Kumar, Director of IIT Bhubaneswar, said the Institute concentrated on the development of technology that had high social, national and local relevance.
“Apart from the latest research and development work, this institution also works on interior problems through innovative technology solutions,” he added.
The solar pump has been installed in 13 locations in various districts including Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Bhadrak, Corruption, Keonjhar, Nayagarh and Mayurbhanj.
It includes three systems for Podapada Village, Kanas on and Khudupup in Khurda.
IIT Bhubaneswar has adopted these villages under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA).
In addition to 13 solar pumps, one has been installed at the Institute.
