PANAJI: IIT Bombay (IIT-B) has sent the Source Apropriation study to the Goa State Pollution Control Agency (GSPCB) to determine the causes of air pollution in Vasco.
This report will be completed at the next board meeting.
Professor VIRENDRA SETHI from the Department of Science and Environmental Engineering IIT-B made a detailed presentation on the ‘source of source of source’ for air quality in Vasco to GSPCB.
The apropriation source tracks sources and measures the amount of ambient air pollution.
The state has witnessed some agitation because air pollution in the port city and this report is expected to ensure the causes of pollution.
The Institute of Technology has been assigned to conduct a source supervisor study after charges of coal pollution in Vasco.
The first phase of the report has stated that coal is not the only mineral responsible for air pollution in the area.
A senior GSPCB official said that while the temporary report did not show the reasons for pollution in Vasco, the second phase would provide details about the right source of pollution.
The first phase began in April 2017 and was completed in May 2018.
Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) had the cost of all studies that had been pegged above RS94 Lakh, a senior GSPCB official said.
This study includes aspects such as identification of sampling locations, monitoring the quality of the air around, and finding pollution sources.
