Vadodara: PILPPING PILLS To cut that extra flab can also take victims of mental health and physical obesity patients who are desperate to lose weight.
But the breakthrough was seen with the University researchers MS developed a new class of anti-obesity agents that would pave the way for drugs that could control food cravings without side effects.
The result is the result of a 10-year strict study when researchers from the Faculty of Pharmacy take the challenge of finding safe compounds that can be used to make drugs to treat obesity without side effects.
Scientists say that there is no single drug that is currently available on the market that can be referred to as an ideal or safe anti-obesity drug.
Researchers have pocketed patients for their discovery while their work is recognized by a scientific report journal that has a global reputation.
Using virtual screening techniques, teams tirelessly work on more than four lakh compounds to identify and design new molecules as anti-obesity agents without side effects.
The team led by the founder of the Faculty of Dean Professor M Yadav, assistant professor Dr.
Prashant Murumkar and research scholar Dr.
Mayak Sharma found a compound that acted on Cannabinoid Receptors 1 (CB1R) as CB1R responsible for regulating tastes, pain, emotions.
It comes on the peripheral network and also the central nervous system.
When this receptor is activated, they increase the urge to eat.
If this receptor is blocked or inhibited, the desire for food is reduced.
“But blocking the CB1 center receptor has many consequences including serious psychiatric side effects.
The main challenge for us is to create a strict CB1 receptor that will not have such side effects,” said Murumkar.
“Limiting the entry of drugs in CNS is one of the strategies that we do to get rid of CNS side effects,” he said.
