Paris: In the midst of high tensions on submarine contracts, US President Joe Biden and France’s colleagues Emauel Macron will speak by telephone in the coming days, a French government spokesman Sunday.
The announcement came a day after France remembered its ambassador to Washington and Canberra, unhappy for AS-Australia’s secret negotiations which led to cancellations from the Australian multi-billion submarine for submarines.
“There will be an exchange on the phone in the coming days,” Gabriel Attal’s spokesman told the BFM news channel, added that the request for the conversation came from Biden.
Macron will ask the US President for “clarification” after the announcement of the US-Australia-English defense pact, as part of where Canberra is to buy an American nuclear-powered submarine, cancel large contracts for Diesel-Electric French ships.
“We want an explanation,” Attal said, adding that the US must answer “what looks like a big violation”.
The previous week, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison rejected the French charges that Canberra lied about his plan to cancel the contract, saying he had raised concern about the agreement “a few months ago”.
