Mysuru: The state government has now assigned Gram Panchayats to improve infrastructure and monitor activities in the country-managed hostel with their limits to meet poor management complaints.
As a consecutive government in the center and the state has implemented a community welfare scheme successfully through Gram Panchayats, the decision is expected to be able to help hostel prisoners to get better facilities.
Circular from the main secretary for the Rural Development Department and Pancrayat Raj Institution Uma Mahadevan issued for Zilla Panchayats directing all grams of Panchayats by limiting this additional responsibility.
There are 1,237 pre-matric hostels and 635 post-matric hostels run by the Social Welfare Department, 136 pre-matric school hostels and 110 post-matric and 119 ashrams run by the scheduled tribal welfare department, 1,310 pre-matrices and 1,137 other posts Hostel Class Backward Matric in Mysuru District.
In accordance with administrative officials, the administrative officer Gram Panchayats must take all possible steps to increase the hostel in their limits, pay a surprise visit to check the presence, utilization of dormitories by students, actions taken for safety, cleanliness in the kitchen and toilet, cctvs installation, biometric presence , availability of furniture, quality drinking water and food distribution for hostel inmates.
They had to hold one-to-one meeting with a vestidone once in three months to collect bait.
As the center and the state government has brought modifications to the MNREGA scheme, local Panchayats can also take steps to improve physical infrastructure in addition to focusing on increasing quality education for hostel prisoners.
They can take the works of Hostel Building and Beautification, upgrade the kitchen park, the construction of compound walls, build kitchens and additional rooms under the scheme.
Gram Panchayats can also sort out small problems in local hostels after discussion at gram Sabhas.
K Krishna, Assistant Secretary, ZP told Toi, “according to the circle, Zilla Panchayat will take all possible steps for the management of an effective hostel that comes with a limit of 265 grams of Panchayats from the MySore district.”
