New Delhi: Delhi Dough Yash Dhull will lead the 17-member Indian forces at the ICC World Cup under 19 years, scheduled to be held in West Indies from January 14 to February 5, BCCI announced on Sunday.
The four-time Indian winner was exchanged for South Africa, Ireland and Uganda in the appointment of Group B.
Dhull was on the path expected because he was also named Captain for the upcoming Asian Cup, which will be held in the UAE from December 23.
Dhull will have Andhra SK Rasheed as his representative for the main tournament in the Caribbean.
“The Junior Selection Committee throughout India has chosen Indian forces for the upcoming ICC under 19 Men Cricket World Cup which will be played in West Indies from January 14 to February 5, 2022 in the Four home countries,” BCCI said in a press release.
The 14th edition of the tournament will see 16 teams competing for the trophy at 48 matches.
India is the most successful team that won the title four times – 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018.
India has also been runner-up in 2016 and in the previous edition of the tournament held in 2020 in New Zealand.
Dhull, the medium-handed order dough right hand, is a leading run-getter in the Mankad Vinoo trophy earlier this year.
He averaged 75.50 for 302 Run for the Delhi District & Cricket Association (DDCA) in five matches played by the team during the tournament.
Delhi Dhull’s players thus joined the great Virat Kohli in the Junior side captain at the Marquee tournament.
He had previously led Delhi U-16, U-19 and India ‘U-19 sides.
Rasheed was also impressive at the Vinoo Mancad Cup, including printing the winning of the match.
The format will see the top two teams from each of the four groups forward to the Super League while the remaining team displays on the plate crossing 23 days of competition.
India will start their campaign against South Africa at Providence Stadium in Guyana on January 15.
They will play their group matches left against Ireland and Uganda each on January 19 and 22.
The four host countries have been confirmed as Antigua and Barbuda, Guyana, St Kitts, and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago with 10 hosting match places.
The 48 match schedule will begin with the host of West Indies taken in Australia, with Sri Lanka facing Scotland in Guyana on January 14.
The group stage will take place in Guyana, St Kitts, and Nevis and Tobago between 14 and 22 January between January 14 and 22.
Trinidad and Tobago will host a plate competition between 25 and January 31, with the Super League take place in Antigua and Barbuda starting 26 January.
