FIFA President Gianni Infantino believes that he has the majority support for his biennial World Cup plan, after national football leaders were told that the switch would create an additional $ 4.4 billion in revenue for the body of the world.
FIFA held a ‘global summit’ of the leaders of the national football federation to discuss its proposal to increase the frequency of the World Cup from every four years into two.
Financial data is part of the overall feasibility study, where FIFA presented a summary on Monday with a 700 full page report to be published.
The findings are optimistic in contrast marked by the analysis submitted by the Proposal Critics.
There have been opposition from European clubs, the top league and UEFA European government agency, whose President Alexander Ceferin has threatened to boycott additional tournaments.
There was no sound scheduled for the plan, but Infantino said the majority was there for ideas but needed to be handled as part of a broader improvement of the international match calendar.
“If I go to vote tomorrow, maybe the majority will choose to support the World Cup every two years,” Infantino told a press conference after the summit.
“But it’s not the topic, we see all calendars and how we can make football better and how much we can bring in a new way to regulate the future in football,” he added.
‘Open and flexible’infantino will not state when any sound will be held or whether it will be an agenda at the FIFA Congress in Doha on March 31.
“It’s about getting the right decision for football at the end of the day and we will take the time needed, to come to this decision.
I will not be committed to anything in Congress.
Everything is open and flexible,” he said.
“We continued the dialogue, Analysis, we hope we can make progress, one or another way, or the middle ground, we will see, “he said.
One of the compromise solutions has been floating by President Concacaf Victor Montagliani, who heads the Confederation for North and Central America and the Caribbean.
Montagliani told Reuters earlier this month that additional tournaments could be the version that was changed from the old Confederations Cup with full world qualifications with process qualifications.
Last month, a report assigned by the World League Forum said the FIFA proposal, allied with changes in the Club World Cup could cost large domestic soccer leagues and UEFA around 8 billion euros ($ 9 billion) per season in missing TV rights and matches Day and commercial agreement.
UEFA, on Friday, published a report that was assigned from the Oliver & Ohlbaum consulting company that warned that changes in the international calendar would see revenue for the decline in the European National Federation between 2.5 and 3 billion euros ($ 3.38 billion) during the four cycle year.
‘Opposition based on fear.
The delegation at the Summit Monday was told that a report by Italian companies opened the economy had found that the income of the domestic league and UEFA competition was not injured by the national team and international club competition.
A report from Nielsen predicted that the Biennial World Cup plan would see revenue up from $ 7 billion which was estimated – for tournament 48 teams – to $ 11.4 billion during a four-year cycle thanks to an increase in ticket receipts and sponsor revenues.
FIFA officials told the delegates that $ 3.5 billion from additional income would go to the ‘Association of Members of the Solidarity Association’ new with every national federation allocated around $ 16 million in a four-year period, while additional funds will also be given to the FIFA Forward program for development projects.
FIFA said that funds will help reduce the gap in income between the football market developed and less developed.
Along with UEFA, the Conmebol South American Confederation has opposed the proposal.
Arsene Wenger, Head of FIFA’s global football development said he hoped the debate would change in the coming weeks.
“We face the opposition but what I regret is that 90% of this opposition is emotional and not facts and not analysis, we must forget this fear because most of the emotions we face are based on fear,” he said.
