New Delhi: Inpatient because Covid-19 in Delhi was far lower during the latest surge in Covid-19 compared to that during the second wave of last year when health infrastructure in the city was controlled by a large number of patients who were competing for the support of oxygen and ventilator, the center said underlining that omicron-infected cases mostly show mild symptoms assisted by increased coverage of vaccination.
About 99% of patients received in hospitals show fever, cough, irritation to the throat as a common symptom.
Patients also experience muscle weakness and fatigue along with other common symptoms.
Among pediatric patients aged 11-18 years in hospitals, fever together with the upper respiratory infection is a common symptom, while the case of low covid pneumonia.
“In Delhi, during the second surge, hospital bed housing remained significantly high from April 1 to almost 20 May,” said Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan.
“However, even though there is an increase in the level of participants in the current wave, those in need (hospital) bed and hospitalization during the third wave are significantly lower.” The number of active cases in Delhi is in the range of 75,000 to 78,000.
Of these, only 2,500 to 2,600 patients were hospitalized, he added.
Bhushan said the symptoms usually settled after the fifth day.
