San Francisco: MobileYe Intel Corp.
unit plans to build and spread a self-drive electric shuttle vehicle with its partners in the United States in 2024, in an effort to improve automatic drive systems outside the taxi and executives to the executive told Reuters.
Mobileye, Benteler EV Systems and Beep will lave transport without driverless requests, which will display 12 to 14 seats and no steering wheel or pedal.
The shuttle will be operated in the “geographical fenced area” where the speed limit is 35 miles per hour or less, Hinrich Woebcken, a member of the Advisory Board for Beep, said the mobility service provider.
They hope to have several hundred vehicles on the US road in the first year of their spread, with the aim of increasing the number to between 10,000 and 15,000 globally, the executive said.
Mobileye plans to spread Robotaxis in Israel and Germany at the end of this year awaiting regulatory approval.
It also works with Silicon Valley Startup Udelv to place automatic electric shipping vehicles to the United States in 2023.
Mobileye will prove to the federal and state regulators that the self-driving system will be safer than a human driver, said Johann Jungwirth, Vice President Mobility-as-service (Maas) in Mobileye.
“In the technology perspective, we feel very, very bullish and very strong so the technology is actually almost ready,” he said.
The executives said the shuttle would help save the cost of the driver and reduce drivers’ shortcomings, and handle urban problems such as emissions and congestion.
“We see attractive opportunities and this autonomous drive growth, an autonomous shuttle market.
So we see it as a blue ocean,” Marco Kollmeier, Director of the Penteler EV Systems GmbH, said.
The Benteler EV system, part of the German automotive group of Benteler International AG group, will build a shuttle that meets the automotive industry standards and safety for public roads.
