Ahmedabad: After seven Iranians were arrested with 30kg heroin, Indian investigators were worried that the interrogation would fall into the Persian Gulf.
But addiction to drug courier – to Bollywood – make a possible dialogue.
Two of the defendants have learned to speak Hindi because of their obsession with Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan Blockbusters.
The other five have built the capacity to understand Hindi, if not scratching a dramatic line in it.
Seven was surrounded during medium operation on September 18 by Guardian anti-terrorism forces (ATS) and Indian Guard Coast.
“We have interrogated people accused of about five days.
Their mother tongue is Persian,” said an ATS officer aware of interrogation.
“But because they are Bollywood fans, communication has not been a problem.” Officers added: “Two of them speak Hindi and five understand it enough to respond to questions.” The officer said that the interrogators were surprised when they first discovered Hindi’s skills from the defendant.
Hindi them, of course, is a variant – Hindustani, a dialect that is enriched by Urdu.
Hindustan is Lingua Franca Bollywood.
Previously, dialect was adopted by Mahatma Gandhi.
Seven Iranians are Ismail Pridadi, Abdul Sattar Mahlum, Rahim Bakhshi, Qadar Bakhshi, Khalid Jagdal, Doormohamed Faiz, and Hamidullah Bakhshi.
Sources in ATS said that seven were sent by their boss, Imam Bakhsh, to give a consignment to Sri Lanka.
But when security agents and marine was alert in Sri Lanka after several large drug seizures, the crew was told to sail to Indian waters.
