Geneva: Israeli settlement in West Bank amounts to war crimes, a UN human rights investigator said on Friday, calling for countries to explain to Israel that “illegal work” cannot be free.
Michael Lynk, a special UN reporter about human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory, handling the UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva, boycotted by Israel who did not recognize his mandate or cooperate with him.
“I concluded that Israeli settlements did the number of war crimes,” Lynk said.
“I submit to you that this finding forced the international community to explain to Israel that the work was illegal, and its disobedience to international law and international opinion, could and will no longer be free of charge.”
