Milan: Italy reaches the target of fully activating 80% of the population over the age of 12 against Covid-19, according to official data, achieving Rome’s goal has been designated as a cut-off point of safety, government data shows on Sundays.
According to the government website showed 43,229,551 people more than 12, of the total population of around 60 million, they had completed their vaccination cycle on October 10.
The 80% target was determined by the Special Commissioner for Emergency Covid, General Army Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, in March and was beaten at the end of October 9 October.
“That’s the critical level above that experts say – and the trend we have recorded for weeks confirming this – that risk of hospitalization reduced”, the commissioner’s office said.
Guido Rasi, a former director at the European Medicine Agency (EMA) and the current advisor for Figliuolo, said it was “not just a symbolic threshold”.
“This level that, the calculation shows, correlates with a significant reduction in viral circulation and drastic cutting in the hospital.” Ration added that reducing the number of hospital admissions is very important for the recovery of the Italian economy and to help the national health care system focus on non-covid related services.
However, reaching the 80% target is not enough, according to the Commissioner’s advisor.
“We must continue to reach other thresholds: both the percentage above 80% if we continue to refrain from vaccinging children under the age of 12 years, or 80% of all populations, including 5 to 12 years,” he said.
Inpatient for Covid in Italy continues to decline since the beginning of summer.
Italy has registered 131,274 deaths related to Covid-19 since the epidemic in February last year, the second highest victim in Europe after the UK and the highest in the world.
This country has reported 4.7 million cases to date.
