New Delhi: Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has made the first decision to spread special technical wings to build certain roads and legs along the actual control line to accelerate the project connectivity with its posts in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh.
This step, which was approved by the UNI Ministry of Home, came in the midst of a military deadlock with China in the East Ladakh area.
Official sources told PTI that the border force, ITBP, had taken “challenges” to build four of the 32 roads under the Phase-II of the Indo-Chinese border road project and two out of a total of 18 18 feet transfers approved for the government.
They say the roads with long varied about one to two kilometers, connect the ITBP border post in the Himalayan range, are on the line of 3.488 km-length from the actual control (LAC) with China during the foot track, which is used by the troops during the patrol, located in the Arunachal Pradesh area.
The ITBP wing engineers and supervisors will “plan and monitor” all work, and land forces consisting of workers and masons will be employed according to government norms, said sources.
Traditionally, road construction projects along these fields were carried out by the Organization of Jalan Border (Bro), the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and other institutions.
Officials said the style engineering wings, the important component of ITBP since increased in 1962, has been defeated for the task to accelerate the work of border connectivity.
In these high and remote areas, getting contractors and construction workers is not easy and therefore, the work of the construction of the border road remains slow, an officer explains.
The government has emphasized the need to ensure connectivity through roads so that rations, transportation and other logistics transportation along the LAC can be easily moved.
Therefore, this initial effort involved the ITBP technique wing was made, he said.
The ITBP technique wings, which are restructured for many years, are assigned to “take care of the construction of operational structures, including border posts, housing and office buildings, solar lighting, power units and water heating systems, improvised micro-hydel and green projects.
