Jammu: A Junior Officer Assigned (JCO) from the army and a critical warrior in a shootout between security forces and a group of terrorists on Thursday in Mendhar in the Fronch J & K District Poonch.
The incident came four days after JCO and four soldiers were killed in the action while pursuing terrorists hiding in the waguanda area in the same district.
“There are fresh exchanges from fire between army and terrorist forces during the ongoing counter-terrorist operations in the typical NAR forest area of the Subdivision of Mendhar,” said Clock-based Defense Spokesman LT Col Devender Anand.
“The terrorists hid in Rajouri-Poonch District forests,” he said, suggested that they might be the same involved in a meeting on Monday that led to five victims on the Army party.
Security forces have explored the forest area that connects the twin border district of Rajouri and Poonch since the shootout in Surankote.
“After the initial meeting in the village of Surankote on Monday, the terrorists had fled to Bhangai Village around Rajouri, which led to another meeting,” an official said.
“The exchange of shots between the two parties stopped after a few hours, suggested that terrorists escape.” The entire forest belt at Axis Rajouri-Poonch remains perched.
