JetBlue to buy sustainable jet fuel at a price of more than $ 1 billion, for use at New York airport

New York: US Carrier JetBlue Airways Corp said on Wednesday it would buy sustainable flight fuel from the SG Preston bioenergy company at a price of more than $ 1 billion and used it for flights from New York airport.
SG Preston will begin sending fuel in 2023 for a period of 10 years, the company said.
JetBlue aims to convert 10% of the total use of fuel to sustainable flight fuel (SAF) – made of raw materials such as used cooking oil and animal fat – with a mixed base at the end of the decade.
Airlines have been under pressure from environmental groups to reduce their carbon footprint, with Biden administration set targets to increase SAF output and help the domestic aviation industry shift from traditional fuel.
JetBlue also said the SAF will be mixed with traditional jet fuel with an estimated ratio of 30%, and will be used for its operations at John F Kennedy International Airport, Laguardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport.
This step came after United Airlines, earlier this month, outlined the purchase agreement for 1.5 billion gallons of SAF more than 20 years since Alder fuel.
