Gandhinagar: Jignesh Mevani, Activist Dalit and MLA Independent of Vadgam, Jignesh Mevani, will join the congress on Tuesday, along with former student leader JNU Kumar Kumar.
Mevani is expected to play a role at the national level in party organizations.
Mevani came to the spotlight when he pioneered the protest by the Dalit community in all the states after the famous Una Dalit flogging incident in 2016.
He has won the rights of Dalit and has played a role in securing land ownership for more than 10,000 Dalits throughout the world.
Mevani confirmed that Kanhaiya Kumar and he would join the Congress this weekend.
“On September 28, I will join the Indian National Congress along with Kanhaiya Kumar.” He added, “I got a proposal from Inc.
I have met Rahul Gandhi on several occasions and very concerned about him and the ideology and vision of the Congress Party for the country,” Mevani said.
“I joined Congress because it would give us more strength in fighting BJP in the upcoming elections in Gujarat, other countries and the selection of Lok Sabha in 2024.
I have no hope of Congress except full freedom to fight my own BJP , “added Mevani.
With induction of Mevani into the immediate congress, three Turkey Young Politics Gujarat – Hardik Patel, Alpesh Thakor and Jignesh Mevani – will all be in harmony with two major political parties.
Driving community-based caste and agitation, Patel, Thakor and Mevani shot into the political centrestage ahead of the 2017 assembly election.
Hardik Patel then joined the Congress and is now the president who works from the State Unit.
Thakor joined the Congress and won the 2017 Assembly election on Congress tickets.
He was captivated by BJP ahead of the 2019 General Election and out of Congress, only lost BJP tickets in elections.
Mevani chose to oppose the 2017 election as independent.
He won the Vadgam assembly chair with the support of Congress and continued to support activities led by Congress inside and outside the Assembly.
The leader of the Top Gujarat Congress confirmed to join Mevani.
“Mevani has been associated with Congress at home and outside too.
The central leadership also wants young leaders like him to help parties against BJP, not only in Gujarat, but nationally.
He is likely to be given a national level post and guarantee his nomination for the Vadgam assembly chair , “said the leader.
“We welcome all revolutionary young men who are willing to work for the development of the state and strengthen the Congress Party and Gandhi’s ideals, Sardar and Nehru,” Hardik Patel said in a statement.
