Reliance Jio Platforms Limited has entered a joint venture with SES to provide satellite-based broadband services in the country.
SES is a provider of internet connectivity solutions based on satellite.
Under partnerships, Jio platform Limited and SES each will have 51% and 49% of equity shares.
In a press statement, the company said that the joint venture would have the availability of capacity of up to 100 Gbps from SES and will take advantage of the initial position and sales of Jio in India to open up this market opportunity.
This will develop extensive gateway infrastructure in India to provide domestic services.
“Joint ventures will use a multi-orbit space network which is a combination of the constellations of Geostation (GEO) and Medium Earth (MEO) which is able to provide multi-gigabit links and capacities to the company, cellular backhaul and retail customers along the extent of India and the regions Neighbors, “he added next.
It will be a vehicle to provide satellite data services and SES connectivity in India, except for certain international and international maritime customers who can be served by SES.
The joint venture will take advantage of SES-12, Ses-throughput Geo Satellite which serves India, and O3B MPower, the constellation of the next generation Meo SES, to expand and equip the terrestrial network Jio, increase access to digital services and applications.
“Jio, as an anchor customer from a joint venture, has signed a multi-year capacity purchase agreement, based on certain milestones along with the gateway and purchase of equipment with a total contract value of around US $ 100 million”, the company said.
