Amman: Jordan, the Ministry of Health Jordan announced on Thursday night it has identified the first two cases of the Omicron Coronavirus variant.
The Ministry of Health statement, which was announced by the Petra news agency managed by the government, said the first case was a Jordanian citizen who had just returned from South Africa and is currently quarantined in a hotel in the capital Jordan, Amman.
According to Petra, the second case was a Jordanian citizen who recently left the country, raising fears that the omicron variant could spread in the royal community.
The second individual was also quarantined in a hotel in Amman.
Responding to two cases, the security management center and the royal crisis announced on Friday that all arrivals will be asked to take the PCR 72 hour test before arriving in Jordan and another PCR test when entering the country.
The law will take effect on Sundays and does not apply to children under the age of five.
At the end of November, Jordan imposed a new restriction on passengers traveling from South Africa, where the very mutating virus strain was first detected.
Steps effectively prohibit the entry of non-Jordanese citizens who arrive from South Africa, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Eswatini and Botswana.
Jordian residents who arrived from seven African countries were required to quarante 14 days in a state-run hotel at Amman Airport.
Jordan, a country from 10.2 million people, has reported 11,879 from Coronavirus since the start of Pandemi.
Under half of the population – around 4.2 million people – have received a dose of pfizer / bionech, astrazeneca, sputnik v, or synopharm vaccine, while only more than 3.7 million Jordanians have received the second dose.
