Mangaluru: Sleuth from the bandkee police station captured three people and took the currency recorded by Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations and from the nominal value of RS 1.9 Crore, on Thursday.
City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said on Friday that the currency record was confiscated when the defendant tried to transport them in the SUV in the city.
The defendant was Zubair Hammabba, 52, Abdul Nasir, 40, and Deepak Kumar, 32, who was a resident of Mangaluru.
While Zubair and Abdul were drivers, Deepak helped his father, who was an electric contractor.
The vehicle used for crime has been confiscated.
Introduction investigations revealed that the defendant had bought a note from someone near the Shivamogg and Chitradurga district.
They reportedly approached several people in the city, offering this note at 20% of their nominal value.
They claim that the Bank will receive the record at 50% of the nominal value with special provisions.
Clarification that the currency records that were demolished did not have value, the top police asked the public to not fall prey to the claim.
The defendant has been ordered under the IPC part 420 and various provisions for certain bank records (termination of liabilities) ACT-2017.
The defendant will be produced in front of the court, and the police will look for detainees for further investigation.
“We need to track the source of the known currency notes, and to whom they are trying to give the same,” Commissioner said.
