After police interrogated them on suspicion of selling newborn babies, four of a family in Kolar city Karanjikatte died by suicide after consuming poison on Sunday night.
The fifth member of the family, Pushpa, which is part of a suicide pact, is fighting for his life in hospital Jalappa in Kolar.
This incident revolves around a love affair between a 20-year student of a college of nursing, who comes from a village near Hosur in Tamil Nadu, and the boy Kolar.
The girl was pregnant but did not tell his family members about it.
She stopped going back to the family even though his father called him several times and asked him to come home.
Last month, the girl gave birth to a girl and tell her mother, who rushed to Kolar.
After spending a few days with her daughter and granddaughter, the girl’s mother reportedly wants to return to his village.
At this time, the girl offered to accompany her mother and both give the baby to Pushpa, an acquaintance and Karanjikatta population.
Having lived in the village for a few days, the girl was returned to Kolar on 31 October and went into the house to his son Pushpa.
But Pushpa denied having given custody of the child.
Surprised, the girl filed a complaint at the police station of women.
Police were called Pushpa and her family members for questioning.
Although they stood their ground that they did not take the child, the police verified the CCTV footage and found their claims properly.
Later, the family sought five days to produce a child and agreed to return to the station on Monday.
However, Pushpa, her parents, her husband and daughter consumed poison on Sunday night.
While Pushpa very important, parents Muneshappa, 70, and Narayanamma, 45, husband Babu, 45, and daughter Gangothri, 17, died on Monday night.
V Narayanaswamy, sub-inspector, Gulpet police station, said Babu ran a small shop and they have yet to get more details.
