Bengaluru: More than 12,000 breakthroughs of Covid-19 infection have been reported in Karnataka since drive vaccination begins, data on the state welfare department of the Department of Family Welfare.
However, officials showed that the number was not worrying because of less than two people from every 1,000 which was fully vaccinated.
While 2.5 crore people have taken at least one covid vaccine dose in Karnataka on Friday, more than 71 lakh people have been fully vaccinated with two doses.
“Of the 12,000 breakthrough infections reported, less than 600 need to be hospitalized,” said KV Trilok Chandra, Commissioner, Department of Health and Family Welfare.
“Compared to the total number of vaccinated people, the number of breakthrough infections is very low and those who need hospitalization are still lower.
This shows the Covid vaccine has been effective.” Breakthrough infections have been seen in all districts of the country, he added.
There is no data about the number of people who take both vaccine doses and but give up on the virus.
“We are a cross-examination data from people who have died and their vaccination status.
We find out if they have taken both doses,” Chandra said.
Dr.
V Ravi, Virologist, and members of the Covid State Technical Advisory Committee, said that the number of infection breakthroughs in this country is similar to national figures.
“The Delta variant of Coronavirus is known to cause an infection breakthrough, but the majority of cases will not require hospitalization,” said Dr.
Ravi.
“It has been an experience in the UK.
There is a large surge in the UK too, but the number of patients who need hospitalization, and victims are very low among people who have been vaccinated After someone takes both doses.
“Infection after one dose cannot be considered a breakthrough infection because the person still has not installed a complete immune response,” he said.
However, there are concerns of new variants of viruses can appear through breakthrough infections.
Mutations occur when the virus makes a mistake when replicating itself.
“Delta variant mutations are in a surge protein.
All Covid-19 vaccines have a protection response to protein surges.
However, protein spike antibodies will not neutralize mutations or prevent infections,” said Dr.
Ravi said.
Surge protein helps the virus penetrate host cells and cause infection.
Officials and experts say people who are vaccinated must follow Covid security norms.
