Minister of Health K Sudhakar congratulated the district administration after the Udupi became the second district in the state after Bengaluru Urban reached 100% coverage of the firstdosis vaccination.
Officials are now trying hard to fully examinate the target population.
A district health department official said the district population target was 9.01.568 and officials were given 9.08,139 first dose to people over 18 years.
“We also cover floating populations and have reached 101% of the target,” said an official.
“This does not mean that we have stopped focusing on vaccinations.
For example, even though Wednesday becomes a government holiday, a team meets to discuss strategies to ensure we do not miss anyone.” About 48% of the population has taken both doses.
A health worker associates the success rate for a series of live programs held on various media platforms, including television, to spread awareness.
Health and district administration officials, including Deputy Commissioner M Kurma Rao and CEO of Zilla Panchayat Y Naveen Bhat, attended these programs and people were given the opportunity to interact and cleanse doubts.
Drive awareness is also held in villages with support from the Village Task Force.
Department of Health’s field staff, private nursing homes and medical colleges are also expanded support.
Officials said reaching patients beds was one of the biggest challenges.
“It’s even more difficult in places where traffic connectivity is bad and on several islands.
In some areas, health staff must cross the river to reach them,” said an official.
“After giving a dose, health workers must wait for 30 minutes in each house to make sure there are no side effects.” The staff said they had some doubts, but health officials convinced these people to take shots.
