Mangaluru: Undertrial detainees who were treated at the Wenlock Regency Hospital were reported to have tried suicide by trying to hang themselves to the window using the sheets on Monday.
Naveen Shetty, 31, was arrested by city police on September 20, after he entered the campus of the District Education and Training Institute (Diet) next to the prison district near Karangalpady and attacked three female staff members with machetes.
Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said the undertrial was accepted due to mental illness in a government hospital.
He seems to be out of danger, he added.
Chandan J Patel, prison supervisor, district prison, said, learning about his medical history, Naveen shifted to the hospital a day after his arrest.
When getting an entry to the diet campus, Shetty who looked angry had revoked the machete from his bag and continued the attacking spree.
