Kolkata: PT Barun Kumar Pal, an exponent of Hansa Veena or Indian slide guitar, exhaled the last in his kolkata residence on Monday morning.
He is 76 years old.
According to his family members, the musician died in his sleep.
He fought against complications after the brain stroke he suffered in September last year.
PT PAL is associated with the Shankar’s Performing Arts Institute in Delhi and loved and respected as a teacher and a good mentor for hundreds of classical music students throughout the world.
He was one of the pioneers of Maihar Gharana and traveled around the world to appear until the pandemic stopped the Live concert.
“The lack of mobility because the pandemic takes the joy of a man who celebrates music throughout his life,” said a family member.
Explain to him as “one of the largest unsung heroes in the country”, Percussion of PT Subhen Chatterjee said, “His contribution to Indian classical music with Hansa Veena, his own instrument, should be celebrated.
