Kolkata: Four men with speech and hearing disorders were arrested on Monday for allegedly raping a woman with a similar defect for several days more than four months ago.
Police and lawyers said they were facing problems communicating with victims and defendants and seeking translator assistance for investigations.
That is why it takes longer to catch the defendant, they said.
The four were produced in the Marine Court on Tuesday and returned in police custody until November 26.
An investigation officer filed an appeal before the court to spread the translators for the investigation.
The woman first filed a complaint in July against one of the defendants, with whom he had a relationship for seven years.
After he left the tense relationship for years, his men and friends abused him.
Then, the woman accused her that she had been sexually harassed by the man and three of his friends opposed his desire.
After a statement of recognition before the judge in the Marine Court last week, the police introduced allegations of rape against the defendant.
“The investigation of this case is complicated because we must seek the help of a translator for every step, whether it recording the statement of the victim or questioning the defendant,” an officer said.
