Beleagavi: End of the month of speculation, the Karnataka Cabinet on Monday approved controversial anti-conversion bills that seek to distribute tight punishment, including prisons and a decent fine, for those who pamper religious repentance through loans or coercion.
With this, the stage is set to the introduction of Karnataka protection on the right to the freedom of the religious bill, 2021, in the assembly on Tuesday or Wednesday and then on the Board.
This bill is expected to get easy approval from the Assembly as BJP in power to enjoy the majority at home.
However, the party, with 32 members, faced a difficult challenge at home over 75 members.
Former CMS Siddaramaiiah and HD Kumaraswamy have stated their opposition to the proposal, saying they will not allow the bill.
Will oppose the conversion bill: so even though the number is stacked on them, BJP believes the bill will pass the board test as well.
Their trust comes from expectations that JD will come to save him by walking out of the house during the bill.
However, some JD leaders said they would oppose the bill and vote against it if a division was sought.
The source said the party, which banks in minority voices in the next assembly selection, are worried that helps the bill to pass directly or indirectly will influence it.
If JD (s) sticks to the stand, it becomes difficult for the powerful party to get a bill passing in the ongoing winter session.
Such developments can force the government to display the bill in the next session when the party’s power will rise to 37 as 25 newly elected members of the local body constituency taking an oath of 5.
Independent Members of Lakhan Jarkihoil are expected to come to the government’s rescue.
Before the cabinet meeting, Chairman of the Minister of Basavaraj Bommai said his government would not allow the conversion of religion “helpless people” in the state.
At an event organized by Vishwa Hindu Parishad, he said: “innocent people are converted.
They are captivated by money and financial assistance.
Hinduism is often attacked towards a very large conversion of religion over time.
There is a religious invasion too.”
